Emory & Henry Men’s Soccer Outlasts Earlham, 1-0, Sunday For First Win

RICHMOND, Ind. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team (1-0) got its first win of the season, defeating Earlham College (0-3) by a 1-0 score Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Raven/Quaker Classic.

How It Happened
- Junior midfielder Ryan Boyette (Fredericksburg, Va.) put the Wasps ahead, 1-0, in the 15th minute on a header to the back post. Sophomore defender Clarence Russell (Suffolk, Va.) was credited with the assist, serving the ball in from the right corner.
- Wasp junior goalkeeper Derek Akers (Hiwassee, Va.) had to make a quartet of saves in the opening 30 minutes, but held strong as the Wasps went into the break up 1-0.
- The second half closely resembled the first as both squads looked to find chances on goal. Earlham out-shot Emory & Henry by a 12-5 margin in the second 45 minutes but were forced to play the final 22:27 with 10 men after a red card was issued.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Boyette tallied his second goal in as many contests, leading E&H to the victory. Junior midfielder Ben Ashfield (Reading, ENGLAND) and junior forward Nino Egli (Maseltrangen, SWITZERLAND) both had a trio of attempts in the match.
- Akers made eight saves as he collected the clean sheet in goal for the Wasps.

Earlham Individual Leaders
- Kevin Arias led all players with seven shots, putting four on target for the Quakers.
- Tyler Smith stopped three attempts in goal despite the loss.
