Bluffton Men’s Soccer Tops Emory & Henry, 5-1, Monday Afternoon

BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Bluffton University Men's Soccer Team (1-0) opened up a 3-0 halftime lead on its way to a 5-1 win over Emory & Henry College (1-2) Monday afternoon. It was the Wasps' third match in as many days as they conclude their trip to the Midwest.

How It Happened
- The Beavers got on the board just 65 seconds into the contest on a goal by Elijah Zimmeran, assisted by Jacob Kiger. BU made it 2-0 in the 27th minute as Dalton Taynor found the back of the net. Assists went to Benjamin Davidson and Andrew Ireland on the play.
- With 3:24 to go before the intermission, Bluffton extended its lead to 3-0 on a score by Britton Doyle, helped by Brandon DeCoursey.
- After the break, the Beavers scored another pair in the span of two minutes to lead, 5-0. Taynor and Zimmerman got their second goals of the match with Angel Velasco-Urbina and Kiger picking up assists, respectively.
- Emory & Henry spoiled the shutout in the 82nd minute when freshman forward Cameron Blalock (Greensboro, N.C.) scored his first collegiate goal for the 5-1 final margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior midfielder Ben Ashfield (Reading, ENGLAND) and freshman Cesar Tobar Monge, Jr. (Charlotte, N.C.) each had three shots while Blalock scored on his only attempt of the contest.
- Junior goalkeepers Derek Akers (Hiwassee, Va.) and Spencer Scott (Stephens City, Va.) combined for three saves in the loss.

Bluffton Individual Leaders
- Taynor and Zimmerman scored two goals each while Kiger had a pair of assists.
- Velasco-Urbina made seven saves in goal including an assist on the Beavers' fourth score.
