Emory & Henry Men’s Soccer Downs Toccoa Falls, 8-2, Tuesday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Soccer Team (2-6) got back on the winning track with an 8-2 win over Toccoa Falls College (4-4) Tuesday afternoon at Fred Selfe Stadium.

Junior forward Nino Egli (Maseltrangen, SWITZERLAND) led the Wasps with three goals, the first hat trick for an E&H player since Tyquis Stallins accomplished the feat against University of Valley Forge on September 1, 2018.

How It Happened
- The Wasps got on the board midway through the 13th minute as Egli found sophomore defender Clarence Russell (Suffolk, Va.) with a through ball down the right side that he took to goal.
- Egli pushed the margin to 2-0 at the 23:33 mark, scoring on a free kick from the top of the box. Just after the half-hour mark, Emory & Henry went ahead 3-0 on a goal by junior midfielder Ben Ashfield (Reading, ENGLAND) assisted by senior midfielder Ethan Taylor (Powhatan, Va.).
- TFC made it 3-1 with 5:40 to go before halftime when Dylan Bodney stole the ball and went to goal for the score.
- After the break, Egli scored in quick succession (55:24 and 58:16) to complete his hat trick. Both goals were assisted by Ashfield.
- In the 62nd minute, sophomore midfielder Louis Pereira-Scott (Glasgow, SCOTLAND) made it a 6-1 advantage with a strike from 35 yards out. Junior forward Ryan Boyette (Fredericksburg, Va.) scored eight minutes later when he converted a failed clearance by the TFC defense.
- The Screaming Eagles got their second score of the contest at the 70:07 mark when Michael Guthrie's cross from the left side found the foot of Colton Guthrie at the back post.
- Emory & Henry capped the scoring with 5:10 remaining. Taylor played a ball into the box from the midfield which was flicked on by freshman midfielder Cesar Tobar Monge, Jr. (Charlotte, N.C.) for freshman defender Malolan Veeravalli (Charlotte, N.C.) to put in the back of the net.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Egli finished the match with three goals and an assist while Ashfield notched a goal and two assists. Taylor finished the match with a pair of helpers.
- Junior Derek Akers (Hiwassee, Va.) made one save as he played the entire 90 minutes in goal.

Toccoa Falls Individual Leaders
- Bodney scored his goal on two shots while Guthrie's assist came in addition to three chances.
- Alex Diaz made eight saves in the contest for TFC.

- Emory & Henry will be back in action next Tuesday when it visits Salem (W.Va.) University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
