Catawba Men’s Soccer Blows By Emory & Henry, 10-1, Wednesday In SAC Opener

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College Men's Soccer Team (3-1, 1-0 SAC) scored three times in the opening 10 minutes on its way to a 10-1 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (0-4, 0-1 SAC) Wednesday night in the South Atlantic Conference opener for both squads.

How It Happened
- Salino Burch put the Catawba Indians ahead just 2:22 into the contest assisted by Tom Savigar. Savigar extended the lead to 2-0 midway through the sixth minute as Matthiew Fiadjoe was credited with the assist.
- Four minutes later, Catawba was awarded a penalty kick and Sebastia Cerda-Tous converted to put the Indians up 3-0.
- E&H responded midway through the 11th minute as sophomore midfielder Jado Masambeta (Uvira, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO) slotted home an unassisted goal.
- Catawba saw Cerda-Tous and Savigar find the back of the net in the 12th and 15th minutes, respectively to run the margin out to 5-1.
- A pair of scores by Bautista Vecchi-Ramello extended the score line to 7-1 before Jacopo Suagher and Saulo Dantas each added tallies of their own for the 9-1 halftime lead.
- With just 59 seconds remaining in the contest, Alvaro Blazquez tipped the margin to 10-1.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Masambeta scored on the Wasps' lone shot on target of the evening as senior forward Nino Egli (Maseltrangen, SWITZERLAND) and junior midfielder Louis Pereira-Scott (Glasgow, SCOTLAND) each added chances.
- Senior Spencer Scott (Stephens City, Va.) and sophomore Ty Catron (Wytheville, Va.) split time in goal, combining for five saves.

Catawba Individual Leaders
- Savigar notched two goals and two assists on the evening while Vecci-Ramello posted two goals and an assist.
- Zack Stiffler earned the win, playing the opening half in goal while Alessandro Malterer and Nick Allen split time for a scoreless second half.

- Emory & Henry continues its SAC road trip, as the Wasps travel to Wingate, North Carolina on Saturday to take on the Bulldogs of Wingate University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with the E&H women's team playing at 5:00 p.m. as the first part of a conference doubleheader.
