Mars Hill Men’s Soccer Tops Emory & Henry, 5-0, Friday Night In SAC Action

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill University Men's Soccer Team (6-6-2, 3-5-1 SAC) broke open a 1-0 halftime contest with four goals in the final 45 minutes for a 5-0 South Atlantic Conference victory over Emory & Henry College (0-12, 0-9 SAC) Friday night.

How It Happened
- The Lions got on the board late in the 30th minute when Peter Ploughmand served up a ball for Luke Manley to finish in the back of the net.
- Ploughmand extended the MHU lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal 4:21 into the second half. Just 50 seconds later, Ploughmand struck again with Jorge Perez Prada being credited for the assist.
- In the 62nd minute, Dan Roth pushed the margin to 4-0. The Lions capped the scoring four minutes later with Filip Hojgaard Jensen finding paydirt. Terri Chawirah earned the assist on the play.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore forward Jado Masambeta (Uvira, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO) led the Wasps with three shots while senior forward Nino Egli (Maseltrangen, SWITZERLAND) had two attempts. Sophomore forward Cesar Tobar Monge, Jr. (Charlotte, N.C.) tacked on a chance of his own.
- Senior Spencer Scott (Stephens City, Va.) posted eight saves in goal, playing the full 90 minutes.

Mars HIll Individual Leaders
- Ploughmand scored his two goals on seven shots and added an assist on the evening while Roth put up seven attempts of his own.
- Brennan Whalen played the first 71:38 in goal making three saves. He combined with James Price to complete the shutout for MHU.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will return to play on Saturday, October 22 when it hosts Coker University at 5:00 p.m., in a SAC matchup. The contest will be the second of a doubleheader with the Wasps' and Cobras' women's squads.
