King Men's Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-0, With Strong Second Half

EMORY, Va. – The King (Tenn.) University Men's Soccer Team (2-0) utilized a three-goal second half to earn a non-conference victory over Emory & Henry College (0-2) on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The Wasps dominated the possession and scoring chances for the majority of the opening half. Fifth-year forward Nino Egli (Maseltrangen, SWITZERLAND) had the ball fall to him at point-blank range in front of the Tornado goal, but King keeper Anthony Bernardi denied the opportunity with a big save. Bernardi came up clutch once more in the 39th minute after conceding a penalty on a yellow card foul in the box, he parried away the penalty shot from junior defender Daniel Martinez-Flores (San Pedro Sula, HONDURAS) to keep the game scoreless heading into the half. 

- Weston Joyner opened up the scoring in the 62nd minute with a right-footed goal into the side netting to give the Tornado the 1-0 lead. Roman De Leon added a second in the 76th minute and Pedro Herrera rounded out the scoring with a goal on an assist from Erick Manirakiza in the 86th minute.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Egli led the Wasps with two shots, one on goal, while Martinez-Flores also had a shot on target. Junior goalkeeper Ty Catron (Wytheville, Va.) recorded seven saves in net.

King (Tenn.) Individual Leaders
- Joyner, De Leon and Herrera accounted for the three Tornado tallies while Manirakiza had the lone assist. Bernardi had two saves for King in the winning effort. 

Up Next
- Emory & Henry opens up South Atlantic Conference play next Saturday, September 9 when it welcomes the Wingate University Bulldogs to Fred Selfe Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. as game one of a doubleheader with the women's team.
