EMORY, Va. – The Wingate University Men's Soccer Team (2-2, 1-0 SAC) opened up a 3-1 halftime lead on its way to a 5-1 victory over Emory & Henry College (0-3, 0-1 SAC) in the first South Atlantic Conference match of the season for both squads.

How It Happened
- The Bulldogs got the scoring started in just the third minute as Pablo Pozos served a ball up for Florens van Honk to put in the back of the next.
- Emory & Henry equalized less than one minute later (3:09) as junior forward Jado Masambeta (Uvira, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO) tallied an unassisted goal.
- WU retook the lead at the 12:03 mark. van Honk and Pozos traded places on the scoresheet as Pozos found paydirt. The Bulldogs went into the half up 3-1 by virtue of a score from Luiz Fortuce.
- In the second, van Honk added his second score of the day, this time assisted by Tajay Grant in the 58th minute. Wingate capped the scoring with 24:04 to play on a goal by Kosi Mafela.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Masambeta scored on his only attempt of the contest. Freshman midfielder Gabe Franco (Charlotte, N.C.) put up a team-best three shots, two of which went on target.
- Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Josiah Wilson (Cleveland, Va.) made eight saves in his first collegiate action.
Wingate Individual Leaders
- van Honk had two goals and an assist to lead the Bulldogs while Pozos tallied one goal and one assist on four shots.
- Marcus Munby earned the win, allowing one goal and stopping three shots.
