BECKLEY, W.Va. The Concord University Men's Soccer Team (2-2-3) scored two goals early in the second half to propel itself to a 2-1 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (0-7) Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference battle between Central Appalachian squads.

How It Happened
- The two squads went back and forth during the opening 45 minutes with neither able to find the back of the net. The Mountain Lions tallied eight shots with two on target, edging the Wasps, who had seven shots with one on goal.
- Returning to action, Concord broke into the scoring column late in the 50th minute. Andre Nicholson settled the ball in the attacking third and flicked it onto Ignacio Alvarez Maina for a bouncing shot to the low right corner for the score and a 1-0 lead.
- Less than two minutes later, the Mountain Lions found themselves again in an attacking position. Tomas Kelly was fouled just inside the top of the box, earning a penalty kick, but Wasp junior goalkeeper Ty Catron (Wytheville, Va.) guessed correctly and parried the attempt away.
- CU made it a 2-0 contest at the 53:50 mark as Kelly executed a give-and-go with Fabian Amhof to find the back post for a score.
- Emory & Henry spoiled the shutout with just 2:12 to go as an attempted clearance by the Concord goalkeeper went off an E&H attacker and to the feet of sophomore forward Jackson Hughes (Dandridge, Tenn.), who slotted it into the open goal for his first collegiate score.
- The Wasps won a free kick with just under a minute to play in the attacking third. Freshman midfielder Gabe Franco (Charlotte, N.C.) put a cross into the box that glanced off the head of freshman midfielder Tin Zymelka (Frankfurt, GERMANY) and narrowly missed the back post for what would have been the equalizer as Concord held on for the 2-1 win.
