Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 4-1, Wednesday Evening

EMORY, Va. The Lenoir-Rhyne University Men's Soccer Team (2-4-3, 2-2-2 SAC) scored a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes on its way to a 4-1 win over Emory & Henry College (0-9, 0-5 SAC) Wednesday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference play.

How It Happened
- The Bears got on the board early in the 7th minute as Harri Rowe served up a perfect corner kick that Ivan Rubio headed to the back post for a 1-0 advantage.
- LR made it a 2-0 contest just 2:07 later when a turnover by the E&H defense saw the ball fall to the feet of Adrian Martina who beat the goalkeeper to the right side to extend the lead.
- Emory & Henry struck at the 19:15 mark when Lenoir-Rhyne turned the ball over and freshman forward Josiah Garrett (Charlotte, N.C.) struck it into the back of the net for a 2-1 halftime score.
- Just before the hour mark, the Bears added an insurance goal as Amau Olle knifed through the Wasps' defense and hit a laser of a shot to the left post.
- The final score came in the 72nd minute as Jahiem Smith found Raul Cañas with a cross inside the box for Cañas to slot into the goal.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Garrett scored his goal on his only attempt of the game while fifth-year forward Nino Egli (Maseltrangen, SWITZERLAND) and freshman midfielder Gabe Franco (Charlotte, N.C.) each tallied a trio of shots.
- Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jimmy Duquette (Kingsport, Tenn.) made five saves despite the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- Martina scored his goal on a match-high eight shots while Olle found the back of the net on three attempts.
- Juan Basabe earned the win in goal, making one save.
