Mars Hill Men’s Soccer Downs Emory & Henry, 8-1, Sunday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. The Mars Hill University Men's Soccer Team (3-5-6, 1-3-5 SAC) broke open a 2-1 match at the intermission with six second-half goals for an 8-1 win against Emory & Henry College (0-12, 0-8 SAC) Sunday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action.

How It Happened
- The Lions got on the board in the 24th minute as Peter Plougmand scored thanks to an assist by Jorge Perez Prada. Plougmand doubled the MHU lead at the 28:31 mark this time assisted by Diego Fernandez.
- With 7:42 to go before the intermission, Emory & Henry freshman forward Josiah Garrett (Charlotte, N.C.) won a penalty after being taken down in the box. He called his own number to take the kick and put it in the back of the net for a 2-1 contest at the half.
- Returning to action, Mars Hill scored twice in the 56th minute to push their advantage to 4-1. Plougmand found the back of the net for his third and fourth goals of the day, assisted by Perez Prada and Fernandez again.
- Just after the hour mark, Thomas Bertelsen notched the first of his two goals on the day with Caleb Byrley earning the assist. The Lions notched three more in the final 20 minutes for the 8-1 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Garrett's penalty kick goal came on his only shot of the day while freshman midfielder Gabe Franco (Charlotte, N.C.) registered a team-high four attempts.
- Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Josiah Wilson (Cleveland, Va.) tallied 11 games despite the loss.

Mars Hill Individual Leaders
- Plougmand's four goals came on 11 shots while Perez Prada scored once and had two assists on six attempts.
- James Price earned the win in goal, making two saves in 62 minutes.
