Emory & Henry Men’s Soccer Battles Virginia State To A Scoreless Draw Wednesday On The Road

 ETTRICK, Va. The Emory & Henry University Men's Soccer Team (0-3-1) went toe-to-toe with Virginia State University (0-2-1) for 90 minutes on Wednesday evening but neither squad was able to find the back of the net. The start of the match was delayed for more than an hour due to lightning in the area.

How It Happened
   E&H made the first real threat in the 17th minute when junior forward A.J. Dale (King George, Va.) struck a shot to the center of the goal but it was saved. Virginia State had four shots on target in a 10-minute span during the opening half but the Wasps' defense held strong. Senior forward Mohamed Elarag (Cairo, EGYPT) put up a strike with 32 seconds to go before the half but again it was turned away.
   The two squads went back and forth for 25 minutes before senior midfielder Greg Ona Vera (Charlotte, N.C.) posted a shot on target at the 70:02 mark. The Trojans put another pair on frame with less than 10 minutes remaining, but Emory & Henry remained unbeaten. The Wasps got two more chances in the final 90 seconds at the hands of senior forward Jado Masambeta (Uvira, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO) and sophomore forward Ethan Hayes (Williamsburg, Va.), however the score was destined to be 0-0.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
   Ona Vera led the Wasps with threes hots while Dale and Masambeta had a pair of attempts.
   Sophomore Josiah Wilson (Cleveland, Va.) made five saves on the afternoon earning the shutout.

Virginia State Individual Leaders
   Eddison Duolo paced VSU with a match-high four shots, putting three on target while Ali-Andro Thaxter posted two chances.
   Sean Roach tallied five saves from his goalkeeper position.
