Mars Hill Men’s Soccer Powers By Emory & Henry, 6-1, With Strong Second Half Wednesday

MARS HILL, N.C. The Mars Hill University Men's Soccer Team (7-2-2, 4-2-1 SAC) scored six goals in the second half to earn a come-from-behind 6-1 win over Emory & Henry University (0-10-1, 0-8 SAC) Wednesday night in South Atlantic Conference action.

The contest was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, September 28 but was postponed due to the effects of Hurricane Helene across Central Appalachia.

How It Happened
   The two teams vied for momentum through the first half hour before Emory & Henry got on the board at the 32:59 mark. Sophomore forward Ethan Hayes (Williamsburg, Va.) played a ball through the midfield and split the Lions centerbacks finding senior forward Jado Masambeta (Uvira, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO). Masambeta fended off the defense and struck as shot from the top of the box into the back of the net. E&H's 1-0 lead would hold through the end of the half.
   Mars Hill got on the board less than three minutes after the break. Peter Plougmand and Leonardo Sanches teamed up to provide the assist for Cam Watts to tie the contest at one goal apiece. Less than four minutes later, MHU went ahead 2-0 when Adrian Faus cleaned up a loose ball in the box for the score.
   At the 71:00 mark, Plougmand began to pour on the offense. The SAC leader in goals added a hat trick in the span of 6:22 to push Mars Hill's lead to 5-1. The goals were assisted by Braxton Robinson, Carrick Bromage and Nolan McMillen.
   Midway through the 80th minute, Nicholas Graves converted a penalty kick goal for the Lions for the final 6-1 margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
   Masambeta scored on his only attempt of the match while Hayes had a shot on goal to go with his assist. Junior forward A.J. Dale (King George, Va.) had a chance that he put on target.
   Freshman goalkeeper Emilio Hernandez-Araujo (Pineville, N.C.) made eight saves in goal.

Mars Hill Individual Leaders
   Plougmand finished with six shots on target as he scored three goal and added an assist. Faus scored on five shots while Graves made his mark on four attempts.
   Logan Cassel picked up the win in goal, making two saves in 80:23 of playing time as Justin Williams closed out the final minutes of the contest.

Up Next
   E&H returns home on Sunday to face off against Newberry College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., as the second match of a doubleheader with the Wasps' and Wolves' women's programs.
