Concord Men’s Soccer Tops Emory & Henry, 6-2, On Wasps’ Senior Day Wednesday

EMORY, Va. The Concord University Men's Soccer Team (12-2-2) opened up a 3-1 halftime lead on its way to a 6-2 win over Emory & Henry University (0-12-1) Wednesday evening in non-conference action at Fred Selfe Stadium. Concord is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll and is one of 12 regionally-ranked programs in NCAA Division II Super Region I.

The contest also served as Senior Day for Emory & Henry as the Wasps honored 14 seniors prior to kickoff.

How It Happened
   The Mountain Lions got on the board late in the 23rd minute as Ted Roberts served up a ball for Fabian Amhof. Concord made it 2-0 just after the half-hour mark on a goal by Mahler Santi Possu assisted by Andy Cruz. With 6:05 to go before the intermission, Santi Possu pushed the margin to 3-0 with an unassisted goal.
   Emory & Henry responded just 19 second later. After winning a free kick, junior midfielder Corey Britt (Abingdon, Va.) put a ball to the to the top of the six-yard box for senior forward A.J. Dale (King George, Va.) who flicked it into the net for a 3-1 scoreline.
   Returning to action after the break, Concord extended the lead to 6-1, scoring three goals in the span of seven and a half minutes. Kai Forsyth got a header goal assisted by Santi Possu in the 51st minute while Amhof added a second score of the day in the 53rd. Santi Possu and Amhof linked up late in the 58th minute to give Santi Possu a hat trick.
   The Wasps added a score of their own with 11:27 left to play as senior forward Jado Masambeta (Uvira, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO) dribbled through the Mountain Lion defense nearly half the length of the field and scored from 10 yards out for the final 6-2 margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
   Dale led the way with a goal on two shots while Masambeta found the back of the net with his only attempt of the match.
   Senior Jimmy Duquette (Kingsport, Tenn.) made two saves in goal playing the first 45 minutes as sophomore Josiah Wilson (Cleveland, Va.) stopped a trio of shots in the second half.

Concord Individual Leaders
   Santi Possu scored three goals on nine shots and added an assist while Amhof put a pair in the back of the net with an assist of his own.
  Nathan Scargill and Miguel Oliviera combined for the victory in goal.

   E&H will be on the road for its final two matches of the year. The Wasps visit Wingate University for a South Atlantic Conference contest on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
