Emory & Henry Men’s & Women’s Swimming Sweep Double Duals With Ferrum And William Peace Friday

FERRUM, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams got the dual meet portion of their seasons off to a start on Friday evening as they both picked up wins against Ferrum College and William Peace University.

The Basics

The Men
- The Wasps got the meet started with a record-breaking win in the 200-meter medley relay. The squad of freshmen Noah Wilson (Frederick, Md.), Luc Grillet (Matthews, N.C.), Antonio Walters (Elon, N.C.), and sophomore Braxton Justice (Spanishburg, W.Va.) swam a 1:45.78 for the new program mark.
- Sophomore Blake Madaris (Acworth, Ga.) set a school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle with an 11:39.74 to finish third in the race.
- E&H took second, third and fourth in the 200-free on the efforts of sophomore Mack Henningsen (Abingdon, Va.), Justice and senior Jarod Bracero (Hoboken, N.J.). Henningsen stopped the watches in 1:57.60, just .02 off the win.
- Walters picked up a win in the 50-yard freestyle at :24.45 while freshman Ryan Spangler (Daleville, Va.) was third and freshman Jackson Cheatham (Appomattox, Va.) was fifth.
- In the 200-yard individual medley, Grillet and Wilson went 1-2 with Grillet's win coming in 2:12.63.
- Walters earned his third win of the night in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in a dead heat with WPU's Samuel Lavinder (:58.41). Madaris and sophomore Nick Moore (Lebanon, Va.) were fourth and fifth.
- Justice took runner-up honors in the 100-yard freestyle (:53.55) while Wilson won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:01.92. Henningsen and Moore placed second and third in the 500-yard freestyle.
- Grillet claimed a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.62.
- E&H closed out the evening by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay as Cheatham, Henningsen, Moore and Spangler went a 1:42.64.

The Women
- E&H kicked off the meet as junior Lauren Trotter (Bristol, Va.), sophomore Cat Sweigart (Bridgewater, Va.) and freshmen Kate Prager (Concord, N.C.) and Marley Sterling (Clinton, S.C.) earned a win in the 200-yard medley relay (2:11.63).
- Freshman Hannah Patton (Marion, Va.) won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 13:52.26 while the Wasps went 1-2-3 in the 200-free with senior Olivia Anson (Apex, N.C.) leading the way in 2:09.38. Freshman Kenzie Welch (Knoxville, Tenn.) and sophomore Leah Mumpower (Bristol, Va.) were second and third.
- Emory & Henry went 1-2-3 in the 200-yard individual medley with sophomore Anne-Louise Tunstall (Mount Airy, N.C.) winning in 2:29.99. Sweigart and freshman Paige Woodworth (Davidson, N.C.) were second and third. Trotter took runner-up honors in the 50-freestyle (:30.42).
- Anson and Prager went 1-2 in the 100-yard butterfly as Anson stopped the watches in 1:03.64 for the win. Tunstall and Woodworth were second and third, respectively, in the 100-yard freestyle.
- In the 100-yard backstroke, Anson earned her third win of the day with a time of 1:07.82
- Welch and Prager claimed the top two spots in the 500-yard freestyle with Welch taking the win in 5:54.39.
- The Wasps made it a trio of 1-2-3 finishes as they swept the podium in the 100-yard breaststroke. Sweigart got the win in 1:14.80 while Mumpower and Woodworth were second and third.
- E&H concluded the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay on the efforts of Tunstall, Welch, Mumpower and Sterling, who went a 1:59.38.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will have a quick turnaround as it hosts University of Lynchburg in an ODAC dual meet on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
