Mars Hill Men’s Swimming Tops Emory & Henry, 105-89, On Senior Day Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams closed out the home portion of the season on Saturday, hosting Mars Hill University in a South Atlantic Conference dual meet. The Wasps honored seniors Ryan Spangler (Daleville, Va.) and Antonio Walters (Elon, N.C.) prior to the first event.

The women's team won 10 of 11 events and broke a program record on their way to a 132-60 drubbing of the Lions. The MHU men edged the Wasps, 105-89, despite E&H breaking two school records.

The Men
- Spangler won the 50-meter freestyle with a time of :26.85 while freshman Nate Perez (San Antonio, Texas) also claimed a victory in the 100-meter butterfly (1:05.46).
- Freshman Owen Seymour (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) was the runner-up in the 200-freestyle with a new school record time of 2:02.79. He also was second in the 100-free at :56.13.
- Sophomore Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.) posted a new program-best in the 400-meter individual medley, finishing third as he touched the wall in 5:17.39. He was also third in the 100-free at :58.97.
- Freshman Christian Smrekar (Rock Hill, S.C.) took second in the 50-free (:26.86) and was third in the 100-back (1:07.34).
- Freshman Payton Nabors (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was the runner-up in the 400-free at 4:33.10 and third in the 100-breast (1:21.39).
- Freshman Kolby King (Max Meadows, Va.) took third in both the 400-free (4:49.99) and the 800-free (9:59.58). Freshman Jordan Krafft (Waxhaw, N.C.) was third in the 200-freestyle at 2:20.80 with freshman Caleb Patton (Marion, Va.) placing second in the 100-meter backstroke (1:06.33).
- E&H's 200-meter freestyle relay took first at 1:44.48 with the 200-meter medley relay going 2:04.23 to finish second.

The Women
- Sophomore Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.) won the 400-meter individual medley, shattering the school record by more than six seconds (5:30.55) and also won the 400-meter freestyle at 4:56.99.
- Sophomore Hope Christensen (Moroni, Utah) grabbed victories in the 50-free at :28.90 and the 100-back (1:13.45) as freshman Mackenzie Barnett (Monroe Township, N.J.) going first in the 100-free (1:02.06) and the 200-free (2:16.13).
- Sophomore Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) won the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 10:24.44 and was second in the 400-meter freestyle at 5:03.45.
- Freshman Mick Sorochen (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) grabbed a win in the 100-butterfly (1:12.01) and was the runner-up in 100-back 1:14.42.
- Sophomore Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.) finished second in the 100-breast (1:23.63) and was third in the 100-free (1:11.09) while freshman Jill Koler (Manassas, Va.) took second in the 50-free at :30.59 and was third in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:24.73).
- Freshman Gabby Sadosky (Las Vegas, Nev.) placed third in the 800-free (10:41.75) as sophomore Tilly Craddock (Christiansburg, Va.) was third in the 100-back (1:17.94).
- In the relays, the Wasps went 1-2 in the 200-meter medley relay to start the meet and also grabbed a win in the 200-meter freestyle relay.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will visit King (Tenn.) University next Friday at 6:00 p.m. The meet will take place at Tennessee High School in Bristol.
