Emory & Henry Men’s Swimming Finishes Sixth At SAC Championships Saturday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Swimming Teams concluded the 2023-24 season at the second annual South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday. The Wasps' women were fourth in the meet while the men finished sixth.

The Women
- Event 29 – 1,650-Yard Freestyle – Sophomore Mackenzie Barnett (Monroe Township, N.J.) made history, breaking the longest-standing school record of more than 11 years as she swam a 17:32.09 to finish third and give the Wasps their first-ever SAC swimming podium finish. Junior Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) was 14th with a time of 19:30.46 while freshman Jaxon Thurman (Ooltewah, Tenn.) placed 15th (19:34.62). Sophomore Bri Digby (Carrollton, Va.) was 18th at 22:57.94
- Event 31 – 100-Yard Freestyle – Junior Hope Christensen (Moroni, Utah) won the "B Final" touching the wall in :52.71 for ninth place overall. Sophomore Gabby Sadosky (Las Vegas, Nev.) was 19th (:55.99) while sophomore Maggie Robinson (Canton, Ga.) placed 22nd (:57.25) and sophomore Vivian Vanderpool (Elgin, Okla.) was 24th (1:06.16).
- Event 33 – 200-Yard Backstroke – Sophomore Samantha Pepevnik (Porsgrunn, NORWAY) broke her won record in both the prelims and the finals, stopping the watches in 2:07.19 to place eighth. Helscher came in 16th at 2:21.54.
- Event 35 – 200-Yard Breaststroke – Junior Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.) placed 15th in 2:33.87 while sophomore Jill Koler (Manassas, Va.) was swam a 2:40.18 (19th) and Christensen notched a 2:40.62 (20th).
- Event 37 – 400-Yard Freestyle Relay – E&H closed the meet out with a sixth-place finish as Christensen, Thurman, Robinson and Barnett stopped the watches in 3:44.20.

The Men
- Event 30 – 1,650-Yard Freestyle – Sophomore Max Betzer (Cumming, Ga.) posted a 17:30.27, placing 14th, as sophomore Jordan Krafft (Waxhaw, N.C.) was 21st in 19:17.10.
- Event 32 – 100-Yard Freestyle – Junior Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.) was 15th, swimming a :46.60. Freshman Noah Day (Milton, Fla.) was 17th (:47.37), freshman Brady Jones (Bluefield, Va.) was 20th (:49.97) and freshman Lucas Cheuvront (Newport News, Va.) was 24th (:54.32). Sophomore Nate Perez (San Antonio, Texas) was the first alternate at 25th in the preliminaries.
- Event 34 – 200-Yard Backstroke – Freshman Ryan Teuton (Chattanooga, Tenn.) swam a 1:58.11, placing 13th while Betzer was 17th at 2:02.88 and sophomore Caleb Patton (Marion, Va.) was 18th (2:06.43).
- Event 36 – 200-Yard Breaststroke – Patton won the "C Final" with a 2:13.57, finishing 17th while Davis was 21st in 2:26.65 and freshman Alexander Hubbard (Davidson, N.C.) was 22nd (2:43.41).
 - Event 38 – 400-Yard Freestyle Relay – Kidd, Davis, Betzer and Teuton swam a 3:19.76 to place sixth to complete the competition.
