Carson-Newman Men’s Swimming Beats Emory & Henry, 154-44, In Season Opener Friday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Men's & Women's Swimming Teams got the 2024-25 season started on Friday evening with a South Atlantic Conference dual meet against Carson-Newman University. The men's squad broke three school records and won one race while the women's team posted three event victories and also broke a school record.

The Men
- Senior Corey Kidd (Stockbridge, Ga.) won the 50-meter freestyle with a school-record time of 23.84 seconds and was second in the 100-meter butterfly at 59.35 seconds.
- Sophomore Ryan Teuton (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was the runner-up in a pair of races. He swam a 1:00.77 in the 100-meter backstroke for a new program best and was second in the 200-meter individual medley at 2:19.88.
- Junior Caleb Patton (Marion, Va.) took third in the 100-breast at 1:14.49 and touched the wall fourth in the 200-IM (2:25.95).
- Junior Jordan Krafft (Waxhaw, N.C.) posted a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 100-free, 200-free (2:18.96) and the 400-free (5:00.15).
- E&H also broke the school record in the 200-meter medley relay as Teuton, Patton, Kidd and sophomore Brady Jones (Bluefield, Va.) swam a 1:53.18 to top the previous program mark by 1.3 seconds to finish second.
- The Wasps finished the day with a third-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle relay as Jones, Patton, Teuton and Kidd clocked a 3:57.59.

The Women
- Junior Samantha Pepevnik (Porsgrunn, NORWAY) won the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 2:27.39. She was second in the 200-meter individual medley, breaking a more than 10-year-old school record by 2.2 seconds in 2:31.23. Pepevnik also placed second in the 100-meter backstroke at 1:08.01.
- Senior Hope Christensen (Moroni, Utah) took first place in the 50-meter freestyle at 27.52 seconds and was second in the 100-meter freestyle.
- Junior Mackenzie Barnett (Monroe Township, N.J.) grabbed the win in the 400-free with a time of 4:45.91 and was second in the 200-free (2:14.02).
- Senior Rachel Ritter (Gibsonville, N.C.) placed second in the 100-meter breaststroke at 1:23.52.
- Senior Paige Gelenski (Boca Raton, Fla.) was third in both the 100-breast and 100-fly, turning in times of 1:24.79 and 1:08.87, respectively.
- Junior Maggie Robinson (Canton, Ga.) was fourth in the 200-free (2:28.51) with sophomore Jaxon Thurman (Ooltewah, Tenn.) placing fourth in the 100-free.
- The group of Pepevnik, Rutter, Gelenski and Christensen was second in the 200-meter medley relay at 2:08.52 while freshman Aida Matute Moreno (Viladecans, SPAIN), freshman Tirayan Bartlett (Woodbridge, Va.), senior Peyton Helscher (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Robinson were third.
- Christensen, Robinson, Thurman and Barnett went a 4:22.98 in the 400-meter freestyle relay to finish third and cap the meet.

- Emory & Henry compete at the King Early Season Invitational next Friday (October 11) and Saturday (October 12) at the Kingsport Aquatic Center.
