Emory & Henry Tennis Teams Sweep A Pair Of Matches With Regis (Mass.), Thursday

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Emory & Henry College Tennis Teams picked up a pair of wins over Regis (Mass.) College on Thursday. The men defeated the Pride, 9-0, while the women were victorious by a 8-1 score.

On the men's side, the number one doubles team of juniors Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) and Adam Henderson (Abingdon, Va.) picked up an 8-0 win while juniors Webster Gilley (Bristol, Va.) and Zach Eccher (Madison, Ala.) won 8-0 at third doubles.

In the singles portion of the contest, senior Chip Wintringham (Burlington, N.C.) won both sets 6-0 at the second singles flight while Henderson came away with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number three singles.

The E&H women picked up three wins in doubles play and won at the first five singles flights for the 8-1 score. Sophomore Alyssa Wingate (Independence, Va.) and freshman Sarah Vishnev (Mooresville, N.C.) won 9-7 at first doubles while Vishnev took number two singles (6-2, 6-0).

Sophomore Emily Bolt (Independence, Va.) came away with a (6-4, 6-0) win at number three singles and sophomore Casey Blackburn (Richmond, Va.) won (6-0, 6-4) at the fifth singles flight.

The E&H men complete their spring break trip with a 3-0 record while the women play Misericordia University Friday at 9:00 a.m.

The Wasps will return home on Monday to face the Rams of Bluefield College. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
