Emory & Henry Men's Tennis Takes Down UVA-Wise, 9-0, Thursday Afternoon At Home

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team recorded a 9-0 victory over the University of Virginia's College at Wise at the Emory & Henry Tennis Courts Thursday afternoon. The Wasps finish the regular season with a 14-6 record and will await the pairings for the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament.

E&H got out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play highlighted by an 8-2 victory at number two doubles by juniors Zach Eccher (Madison, Ala.) and Webster Gilley (Bristol, Tenn.).

In singles play, junior Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) won (6-0, 6-2) at number one singles while senior Chip Wintringham (Burlington, N.C.) won (6-1, 6-1) at the second singles flight. Eccher blanked his competition at number five singles, winning (6-0, 6-0).

Emory & Henry will next take the court in the quarterfinals of the 2012 ODAC Tournament on Sunday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m., at home. The Wasps' opponent is yet to be determined.
