Bridgewater Men's Tennis Takes Down Emory & Henry, 8-1, Sunday Afternoon

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College Men's Tennis Team (11-7, 8-1 ODAC) shocked Emory & Henry College (13-3, 8-2 ODAC) with an 8-1 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Wasps will now have the #3 seed in the 2013 ODAC Tournament.

The Eagles got out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Seniors Matt Nelson (Galax, Va.) and Adam Henderson (Abingdon, Va.) fell at the top pairing by a 9-8 (3) score.

E&H got its lone point of the match at the fifth singles flight. Senior Webster Gilley (Bristol, Tenn.) picked up a three-set win (2-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (10-4)) to avoid the shutout. Three other singles matches went down to the third set for the Wasps.

Emory & Henry will await the release of the 2013 ODAC Tournament pairings to find out its quarterfinal opponent. Wasps will host their quarterfinal match on Saturday afternoon.
