Emory & Henry Men's Tennis Takes Down Ferrum, 7-2, Sunday

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (1-0) opened the fall portion of its season Sunday with a 7-2 win over Ferrum College (0-1) at the Richardson Tennis Courts. The win was the first for Kevin Girard, who is in his first year as head coach of the Wasps.

Senior Webster Gilley (Bristol, Tenn.), junior John Hanlon (Bristol, Tenn.) and sophomore Jonathan Romano (Bland, Va.) won both of their matches on the day as Emory & Henry was victorious in all but the top flights of both singles and doubles competition.

Freshmen John Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) won their singles matches while freshman Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) teamed up with Gilley to win singles.

Emory & Henry will next compete on Saturday when it hosts the University of Virginia's College at Wise at 10:00 a.m. The match will serve as the Wasps' inaugural Breast Cancer Awareness Day and donation will be accepted for Relay For Life.
