Shenandoah Men's Tennis Tops Emory & Henry, 7-2, In ODAC Action Thursday

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Emory & Henry men's tennis team (1-5, 0-1 ODAC) dropped their first ODAC match of the 2015-16 season to Shenandoah (3-5, 2-2 ODAC), 7-2, in Winchester, Virginia Thursday evening.  It is the fourth straight loss for the men's tennis team.

At one doubles, John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) fell short in a highly contested matchup, 9-8 (10-8).  At two doubles, Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA)  and Liam Davidson (Newport News, Va.) were defeated 8-2, while three doubles was blanked 8-0.

Ferguson played very well at one singles as he defeated the Hornets number one player 6-4, 6-7, 12-10. In his first singles match of the Spring, Aliev won at two singles 4-6, 6-2, 10-8.  Funkhouser and Davidson lost at three and four singles, respectively, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-0.  Andrew McClung (Roanoke, Va.) played an a tough matchup at five singles.  The freshman fell 6-2, 7-6, 7-5 in what turned out to be one of several exciting matches.  At six singles, James Watson-Dare (Charlotte, N.C.) went down 6-0, 6-1.

The Wasps next matchup is against ODAC foe Lynchburg College on Friday, March 25.
