FERRUM, Va. - The Emory & Henry men's tennis team (1-12, 0-7 ODAC) drops their 11th straight match of the season to Ferrum College (11-8, 5-5 USA South) on Saturday afternoon. The team fell by a score of 7-2.
The men's team started the day off with a tight matchup at one doubles. John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) took a 9-7 loss. At two doubles, Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) and Liam Davidson (Newport News, Va.) went down, 8-3, at two doubles. Andrew McClung (Roanoke, Va.) and James Watson-Dare (Charlotte, N.C.) were only able to win one game, as the two fell, 8-1, at three doubles.
Ferguson continues to be a solid player at one singles. Ferguson earned another victory, beating Ferrum's number one, 2-6, 6-2, 10-7. Aliev lost 6-1, 6-4 at two singles. Funkhouser played in a thrilling match at three singles. The junior won, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 11-9. Davidson lost, 6-2, 6-0, at four and McClung went down, 6-3, 6-2. Watson-Dare finished up the match by losing, 6-1, 6-1, at six singles.
The men's team plays against Hampden-Sydney on Sunday in Roanoke, Virginia.
