Roanoke, Va. - The Emory & Henry men's tennis team (1-13, 0-8 ODAC) fell in a tight matchup versus Hampden-Sydney College (2-12, 1-6 ODAC) Sunday afternoon. The Wasps fought hard but lost 5-4 in Roanoke, Virginia.
With a slight change up, Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) teamed up with Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) at one doubles. The pairing won, 8-2. John Dalton Ferguson (Gate City, Va.) and Andrew McClung (Roanoke, Va.) earned an 8-3 victory at two doubles. Liam Davidson (Newport News, Va.) and James Watson-Dare (Charlotte, N.C.) were unable to win a game, going down, 8-0, at three doubles.
Ferguson earned his team-leading eighth win at one singles on the afternoon. The junior won, 6-2, 6-1. Aliev also earned a victory in singles play. At two, he won, 6-2, 6-2. Unfortunately, the team could not find another win on the day. At three singles, Funkhouser lost, 6-4, 6-1. Davidson went down, 6-2, 6-2, at four singles. McClung came up short, losing, 6-3, 6-0. While Watson-Dare lost, 6-0, 6-1.
The Wasps next match will be against ODAC-leading Washington and Lee at Emory & Henry College on Saturday, April, 23rd.
