Emory & Henry Men's Tennis Competes in Randolph-Macon One-Day Tournament on Saturday

ASHLAND, Va. – The Emory & Henry men's tennis team (0-0, 0-0 ODAC) traveled to the campus of Randolph-Macon college for one day tournament. At the tournament, players from different colleges faced off against one another, in which the results do not count against team scores. The Wasps traveled with seven players to the tournament.  

Doubles

-James Watson-Dare (Charlotte, N.C.) and Dalton Shipley (Gate City, Va.) faced off against a tandem from Randolph-Macon, in which they lost, 8-1
-Freshman Cooper Garrett (Gate City, Va.) and Grayson McCarthy (Marion, Va.) fell, 8-2, to a Randolph-Macon team
-Kamil Aliev (Moscow, RUSSIA) and Luke Funkhouser (Gate City, Va.) also lost, 8-2
-The team of Jared Carter (Gate City, Va.) and Shipley lost, 8-2
-Garrett and McCarthy also fell, 8-2
-Aliev and Funkhouser picked up the only doubles win on the day, 8-5 

Singles

James Watson-Dare
-Won 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 for his first career singles victory
-Lost, 6-1, 6-0, to a Randolph-Macon player

Kamil Aliev
-Picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win
-Won another match 6-1, 6-2

Luke Funkhouser
-Fell, 6-1, 6-3
-Lost another match, 6-2, 6-1

Dalton Shipley
-Went down, 6-1, 6-1
-Was defeated by a Randolph-Macon player, 6-2, 6-0

Grayson McCarthy
-Took a 6-1, 6-0 loss
-Lost a tough match, 7-6, 6-2, to a Randolph-Macon player

Cooper Garrett
-Fell, 6-0, 6-3 in a match
-Lost, 6-3, 6-3, in his other singles match

Jared Carter
-Swept, 6-1, 6-1
-Lost by the same 6-1, 6-1 score in his final singles match
