STAUNTON, Va./LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (10-6) assured itself of a winning season with three victories over the weekend. The Wasps won twice Saturday on the campus of Mary Baldwin University, defeating the Fighting Squirrels, 9-0, and the Pacers of William Peace University, 5-0. On Sunday, E&H traveled to Randolph College to earn a 7-2 win.

The Mary Baldwin Match
The Wasps opened the match with a 3-0 lead as the third doubles pairing and the No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights were left unfilled by the Squirrels.
At No. 1 doubles, senior Archer Marlow (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and freshman Alvaro Garcia (Madrid, SPAIN) won by an 8-0 score. Senior Tyler Wills (Rochelle, Va.) and freshman Corey Garrity (Spartanburg, S.C.) also picked up an 8-0 win in the second doubles match.
Singles saw senior Brandon McGuire (Christiansburg, Va.) and Garrity win by 6-0, 6-0 scores at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Garcia picked up an 8-0 "pro-set" win at No. 3 while Wills won - 6-1, 6-2 - at No. 4.
The William Peace Match
Saturday afternoon's match was played under Division II rules with the Wasps earning the doubles point dropping just one game. Marlow and freshman Juan Alvarez (Metepec, MEXICO) won 6-0 at No. 1 while McGuire and Garrity grabbed a 6-0 win at No. 2. Wills and Garcia claimed a 6-1 win at No. 3 to close doubles action.
In singles, McGuire won at the premier pairing by a 6-1, 6-2 score. Both Marlow and Alvarez claimed 6-0, 6-2 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively while Garrity blanked his opponent at No. 4. Garcia and Wills were each leading, 4-2, when the match was decided.
The Randolph Match
E&H jumped out to a 3-0 lead through doubles against their former ODAC opponent. Marlow and Alvarez grabbed an 8-2 win at No. 1 while McGuire and Garrity won, 8-3, at No. 2. Wills and Garcia claimed a hard-fought 8-6 victory at the third flight.
In singles, the WildCats won the top two flights. Alvarez and Garrity got 6-0, 6-0 wins at Nos. 3 & 4, respectively, while Garcia won, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5. The sixth pairing was unfilled by Randolph, so E&H won by default.

Emory & Henry will close out the season with three home matches this coming weekend. The Wasps will host Bluefield University on Friday (3 p.m.), Midway University on Saturday (noon) and Johnson & Wales (N.C.) University on Sunday (1 p.m.).
