Southern Virginia Men's Tennis Slips Past Emory & Henry, 4-3, Monday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. - The Southern Virginia University Men's Tennis Team (2-0) earned a 4-3 win over Emory & Henry College (0-1) Monday afternoon. The contest was the first of the year for the Wasps, who had their season-opener against King (Tenn.) University on Saturday, September 10 postponed due to rain.

How It Happened
- The Wasps took the doubles point as they completed a 3-0 clean sweep. Freshman Kartik Parhar (Ludhiana, INDIA) teamed up with sophomore Juan Alvarez (Metepec, MEXICO) for a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. Fifth-year Brandon McGuire (Christiansburg, Va.) and sophomore Branson Smith (Fletcher, N.C.) combined for the win at No. 2 doubles by a 6-3 score. Sophomore Corey Garrity (Spartanburg, S.C.) and freshman Diego Alvarez (Bogotá, COLOMBIA) rounded out the doubles portion with a 7-5 decision at the No. 3 spot.
- In singles play, Parhar earned a hard-fought victory at the No. 3 position as he took the decision 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-6). Juan Alvarez was victorious at the No. 4 spot for the Wasps, taking the win by a score of 6-1, 6-1, but it was not enough to stop the Knights as they took the 4-3 win.
