Mars Hill Tennis Picks Up Wins Over Emory & Henry Tuesday In SAC Action

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Tennis Team (4-9, 0-6 SAC) and Women's Tennis Team (4-7, 0-6 SAC) dropped a pair of close matches to Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday afternoon. The Mars Hill women's team took the decision 5-2 while the men's team eked out the 4-3 victory.

Men's Match
- The doubles team of sophomore Branson Smith (Fletcher, N.C.) and fifth-year Brandon McGuire (Christiansburg, Va.) won their match at No. 3 doubles by a 6-0 score, but the Lions took the doubles point to jump ahead 1-0.
- Freshman Kartik Parhar (Ludhiana, INDIA) was victorious at No. 2 singles as he won a third set tiebreak to win by a 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 1-0 (10-4) scoreline. 
- Sophomore Juan Alvarez (Metepec, MEXICO) earned a win at No. 3 singles, besting his opponent 6-0, 6-4.
- McGuire was again victorious, this time at the No. 6 singles spot as he took the decision 6-3, 6-3.

Women's Match
- The Lions swept the doubles portion of the match to take a 1-0 lead.
- Junior Emma Charlton (Newcastle upon Tyne, ENGLAND) took down her opponent at No. 2 singles in a third set tiebreak 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).
- Freshman Natalie Bergmann (Forest Hills, N.Y.) picked up a win at No. 4 singles as she took the come-from-behind victory by a 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-5) score.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry returns home on Friday to take on the Cobras of Coker University in South Atlantic Conference action. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
