Emory & Henry Track & Field Breaks Eight School Records At VMI Winter Classic

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Indoor Track & Field Teams continued their seasons on Saturday at the VMI Winter Classic. The Wasps continued to rewrite the record book with four program marks falling on both men's and women's side.

Top Men's Performances
- Junior Zavery Wallace (Buena Vista, Va.) broke the E&H record in the weight throw with a mark of 17.52 meters and was also eight in the shot put (13.82m).
- Sophomore Drew Craft (Covington, Va.) was the runner-up in the triple jump at 13.99 meters for a new program best and also took eighth in the high jump (1.79m) and 13th in the long jump (6.09m).
- Sophomore Joseph Ihlenburg (Roanoke, Va.) claimed eighth in the high jump at 1.84 meters and was 10th in the long jump with a mark of 6.21 meters.
- Senior Aaron Wilson (Chester, Va.) placed eighth in the 400 meters with a school record time of 50.74 seconds while sophomore Nour Nabi (Lake Ridge, Va.) broke the previous best in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.71 seconds to finish fifth.
- In the 5,000 meters, the Wasps took four of the top six spots with senior Matthew Klapak (Zion Crossroads, Va.) leading the way at 16:07.42 to finish third. E&H also got four of the top 10 in the 3,000 meters led by sophomore Kaleb Elswick's (Big Rock, Va.) fifth-place performance (9:15.98) while junior Samuel Tindall (Fort Defiance, Va.) was sixth in the mile (4:30.40) as Emory & Henry had three in the top nine.
- E&H posted a pair of runner-up relays as the distance medley relay of sophomore Hillis Roberson, IV (Rosenburg, Texas), freshman Hayden Pugh (Louisa, Va.), junior T.J. Pecina (Hayter's Gap, Va.) and junior Miles Baldwin (Willis, Va.) ran a 11:01.74. The 4x400 meter relay turned in a time of 3:39.79 on the efforts of sophomore Barlowe Branch, III (Petersburg, Va.), Wilson, sophomore Gavin Kegler (Woodbridge, Va.) and Cody Pecina (Hayter's Gap, Va.).

Women's Top Performances
- Junior Delaney Eller (Salem, Va.) won the 5,000 meters, crushing the previous school record with a time of 18:16.13 while sophomore Kennedy Harris (Mineral, Va.) was seventh in the 3,00 meters at 11:36.38 and 10th in the mile (5:45.21.
- Freshman Mia Spangler (Floyd, Va.) broke her triple jump record with a leap of 10.58 meters to finish sixth and was 11th in the long jump at 4.87 meters.
- Freshman Aiyana Blakey (Woodbridge, Va.) broke the E&H record in the 60 meters, crossing the line in 8.20 seconds.
- Junior Taylorann Cash (Buena Vista, Va.) was 11th in the shot put with a throw of 10.45 meters.
- In the 4x400 meter relay, the Wasps got another record as freshman Tess Somervell (Chilhowie, Va.), sophomore McKenzie Tate (Wytheville, Va.), sophomore Maya Turner (Midland, Va.) and Blakey ran a 4:16.58 to finish fifth.
