Emory & Henry Men’s Track & Field Takes Second At Tornado Classic

BREVARD, N.C. – The Emory & Henry University Outdoor Track & Field Teams kept rolling on Friday with a pair of second-place finishes at Brevard College's Tornado Classic. The Wasps broke nine school records and tied a 10th during the competition. Five records and a tie occurred on the men's side with four new program-bests on the women's side.

Top Men's Performances
- Sophomore Joseph Ihlenburg (Roanoke, Va.) won the long jump with a school-record mark of 6.96 meters while teammate sophomore Drew Craft (Covington, Va.) was the runner up. The pair tied the school record in the high jump at 1.85 meters to finish third while Craft was fourth in the triple jump at 13.67 meters.
- Junior Gavin Lee (North Tazewell, Va.) won the hammer throw a 53.53 meters for a school record and was first in the discus at 48.14 meters. Junior Zavery Wallace (Buena Vista, Va.) placed second in both events.
- Sophomore Will Humphrey, II (Charlotte, N.C.) was the runner-up in the 100 meters at 10.68 seconds and placed sixth in the 200 meters with a school-record time of 21.94 seconds. Senior Aaron Wilson (Chester, Va.) notched a record 50.11 seconds in the 400 meters to place fourth with sophomore T.J. Pecina (Hayter's Gap, Va.) in fifth.
- Sophomore Gavin Kegler (Woodbridge, Va.) was the runner-up in the 800 meters, running a 1:56.72 while Cody Pecina (Hayter's Gap, Va.) crossed fifth. In the 1,500 meters, junior Miles Baldwin (Willis, Va.) was third (4:07.09) as junior Samuel Tindall (Fort Defiance, Va.) placed fifth.
- In the 10,000 meters, senior Matthew Klapak (Zion Crossroads, Va.) bested the field with a time of 35:34.69 and sophomore Aidan Trautman (Centreville, Md.) went fourth. The 5,000 meters saw sophomore Davis Norman (Salem, Va.) come in third at 16:11.68 with Baldwin finishing fourth.
- Sophomore Barlowe Branch, III (Petersburg, Va.) broke the E&H record in the 400-meter hurdles at 54.27 seconds to win the event as sophomore Nour Nabi (Lake Ridge, Va.) was fifth. Nabi claimed third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.72 seconds).
- The steeplechase saw Norman win with a time of 10:04.33 while junior Justin Owens (Grundy, Va.) was second.
- The Wasps' 4x100 meter relay, comprised of senior Willie Williams (Manassas, Va.), sophomore Joshua Black (Woodbridge, Va.), junior Zedrick Yeboah (Fredericksburg, Va.) and Humphrey finished third in 43 seconds flat.

Women's Top Performances
- Sophomore Maddy Fiscus (Crockett, Va.) obliterated the school record in the 10,000 meters with a second-place finish. Her time of 46:23.84 was nine minutes faster than the previous best.
- Junior Delaney Eller (Salem, Va.) won the 1,500 meters in school-record fashion at 4:42.38 and was also first in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:13.91.
- In the jumps, freshman Mia Spangler (Floyd, Va.) set new E&H records in the long jump (5.25 meters) and the triple jump (11.00 meters) on her way to a pair of wins. Freshman Abby Harris (Powell, Tenn.) was fourth in the long jump. Junior Alyssa Chappell (Church Hill, Tenn.) claimed fourth in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters.
- Freshman Tess Somervell (Chilhowie, Va.) took fourth in the 800 meters at 2:27.37 while Abby Harris was fourth in the 100 hurdles (:17.30) and junior Madison Ricketts (Kingsport, Tenn.) was fifth. The 400 hurdles saw Ricketts post a second-place finish at 1:09.50.
- In the steeplechase, junior Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) won, covering the distance in 12:46.75
- The Wasps' 4x400 meter relay, made up of Somervell, sophomore Kennedy Harris (Mineral, Va.), sophomore McKenzie Tate (Wytheville, Va.) and Ricketts combined to finish second in 4:14.18.
