Emory & Henry Cross Country Competes In Milligan’s Buffalo Valley Stampede Friday Evening

UNICOI, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams had their second meet of the season Friday afternoon as they competed in Milligan College's Buffalo Valley Stampede at Buffalo Valley Golf Course. The E&H women finished fourth out of five teams while the men were sixth of six.

The women's race was contested on a three-mile course. Sophomore Elizabeth Wilson (Roanoke, Va.) led the way as she finished 20th with a time of 21:35. Second for E&H was sophomore Leslie Sierra (Front Royal, Va.), who was 25th (22:17). Rounding out the top five for the Wasps were freshman Audra VanDerwerker (Bedford, Va.), sophomore Gabbie Rhodes (Richmond, Va.) and junior Olivia Bailey (Chilhowie, Va.).

Milligan won the team title, putting five runners in the top seven, with Cassie St. John taking medalist honors clocking an 18:39.

On the men's side, freshman Kevin Watts (Stafford, Va.) turned in a time of 21:10 to finish 22nd while freshman Alex Cooper (Christiansburg, Va.) was 28th (21:32) over the six-kilometer course. Sophomore Nathan Fishell (Richmond, Va.) finished 30th, registering a 21:41. Freshman Jackson Feezell (Gastonia, N.C.) and sophomore Will Leigh (Hamilton, Va.) were fourth and fifth, respectfully for E&H.

Tennessee Wesleyan College picked up the team title, as its five scorers finished in the top 10. Ahmad Nesbitt was the top runner on the day, covering the distance in 19:07.

Emory & Henry will next compete at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, South Carolina on Saturday, September 21. The teams will take the starting gun at 9:00 a.m.
