Emory & Henry Cross Country Competes At ODAC Preview Meet Friday Evening

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams got a look at the course for the 2015 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships Friday evening, as they competed at the ODAC Preview Meet on the campus of Bridgewater College.

Both teams were at less than full strength as injuries sidelined two of the top women and a flat tire on one of the two team vehicles allowed only four men to race.

In the women's 6K race, freshman McKenna Tankersley (Big Stone Gap, Va.) was 24th overall with a time of 27:32 while junior Elizabeth Wilson (Roanoke, Va.) finished 26th in 27:51. Freshman Taylor Henderson (Glade Spring, Va.) ran a 28:53 for 34th overall while freshman Kelly Light (Blountville, Tenn.) was 41st (29:41) and sophomore Lindsey Pratt (Marion, Va.) came in 43rd (30:27). Freshman Annie Kate Leinius (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) rounded out the field for the Wasps in 36:07.

Eastern Mennonite University's Hannah Chappell-Dick won the race overall with a time of 23:42 while Roanoke College claimed first as a team, placing four runners in the top seven.

The Emory & Henry men were paced by sophomore Buck Kirtland (Richmond, Va.) who ran a 29:18 for 34th overall. Sophomore Seth Hein (Fairfax, Va.) came in 40th with a time of 29:54 while senior Nathan Fishell (Richmond, Va.) clocked a 30:50 for 51st. Senior Justin Smith (Roanoke, Va.) rounded out the field for E&H, finishing with a time of 35:41 (71st).

Roanoke's Harrison Toney won the race with a time of 26:33 while Lynchburg College earned the team title, putting five runners in the top 12.

Emory & Henry will next compete on Saturday, September 26 at the Greensboro College Invitational in Greensboro, North Carolina.
