Emory & Henry Cross Country Announces 2017 Meet Schedule

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams have set their schedule for the 2017 season. Under the leadership of second-year Head Coach Ian Layne, this fall's lineup will see the Wasps compete in seven different meets in three different states.

"I am excited about how our schedule lines up this season. We are looking forward to returning to the Greensboro Invitational where both teams are looking to defend the Division III title from last year," said Layne. "Returning to the Piedmont Invitational will also be a big weekend for us as we had some of our best individual performances of the year during that race."

Emory & Henry kicks off the year with three races in North Carolina. The first two are new to the Wasps' schedule with the season-opener at the Western Carolina Invitational on Saturday, September 2 in Cullowhee.

The next week, E&H will race in the Royals Twilight meet in Charlotte, North Carolina. Queens University of Charlotte will serve as host. The Wasps will continue their stretch in the Old North State on Saturday, September 30 in the Greensboro Invitational. The Emory & Henry men are two-time defending champions of the Division III race while the Wasp women took the DIII title last year.

The first two weeks of October will see E&H travel to Georgia for the Piedmont Invitational (Sat., Oct. 7) and the Berry Invitational (Sat., Oct. 14). Last year, the Wasp men were third at Piedmont while the women finished sixth.

"We are excited that all of our meets are within the South/Southeast Region this year. I think the competition that we see will prepare us for the ODAC Championships along with the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships," Layne added.

On Saturday, October 28 Emory & Henry will officially begin the postseason with the 2017 ODAC Championships, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University. Two weeks later, the Wasps will return to the Tidewater for the 2017 NCAA Division III South/Southeast Region Championships. Christopher Newport University will serve as this year's regional host.
