Emory & Henry Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Compete At Converse Kick-Off

E&H runners start a race.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Emory & Henry University Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams kept the season going on Saturday, competing at the Converse Kick-Off. The men finished seventh out of 22 teams while the women were 12th. The meet served as the de facto NCAA Division II Southeast Region preview meet, as Converse will host the regional championship in November.

The Women – 6K (3.73 miles)
   Junior Delaney Eller (Salem, Va.) placed 45th overall, running a 23:43 to lead Emory & Henry while junior Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) and sophomore Kennedy Harris (Mineral, Va.) were 92nd (25:36) and 96th (25:56), respectively.
   Sophomore McKenzie Tate (Wytheville, Va.) ran a 26:19 which was good for 110th as sophomore Maddy Fiscus (Crockett, Va.) was 122nd in 26:53.
   Wingate University won the team championship with its five scoring runners finishing 13th or better. Catawba College was second with the highest-finishing Division II runner in Madison Clay.
   Unattached runner Heather Murray set the pace, completing the 6K distance in 21:41 while Montreat College's Ali Ray was the top collegiate harrier in 21:43.

The Men – 8K (4.97 miles)
   Senior Matthew Klapak (Zion Crossroads, Va.) led the way, running a 26:03 to finish 29th overall while junior Miles Baldwin (Willis, Va.) crossed the line in 26:25 to take 39th.
   Junior Samuel Tindall (Fort Defiance, Va.) was 45th as he posted a 26:36 while sophomore Kaleb Elswick (Big Rock, Va.) squeezed into the top 50 at 26:43. Sophomore Davis Norman (Salem, Va.) rounded out the Wasps' scoring runners at 61st (26:55).
   Anderson University won the meet with the top two individual finishers and all five of their scorers in the top 15. Catawba College was second overall.
   Elliott Dotson won the race in 24:21, finishing 33 seconds clear of teammate Spain Vaughan.
