Emory & Henry Men’s Cross Country Takes Seventh At Roanoke Newberry Invitational Saturday

SALEM, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams closed out the regular-season portion of their schedules on Saturday at the Roanoke Invitational at Green Hill Park. Both squads finished seventh in the field which was made up of NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and junior college programs.

The Women – 6K (3.73 miles)
   Sophomore Kennedy Harris (Mineral, Va.) led the Wasps as she finished in 53rd place at 23:51 while junior Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) was 67th, posting a 24:33.
   Sophomores McKenzie Tate (Wytheville, Va.) and Maddy Fiscus (Crockett, Va.) were 80th and 81st, respectively in 25:03 and 25:06 while freshman Tess Somervell (Chilhowie, Va.) came in 96th, running a 26:17 to round out E&H's scorers.
   Sophomores Madison Carlisle (Stafford, Va.) and Hannah Rosen (Falls Church, Va.) finished just outside the top 100 at 103rd (26:58) and 104th (27:08).
   Unattached runner Grace Boone won the race with a time of 20:30. The fastest collegiate competitor was Liberty University's Katrina Schlenker, who topped the field in 20:47.
   Liberty won the team title with five runners in the top 14 while East Tennessee State University was the runner-up, placing their scorers in the top 19.

The Men – 8K (4.97 miles)
   Sophomore Hillis Roberson, IV (Rosenburg, Texas) was the top E&H runner, covering the course in 27:05 to finish 51st. Senior Aaron Wilson (Chester, Va.), junior Justin Owens (Grundy, Va.) and sophomore Aidan Trautman (Centreville, Md.) claimed the places of 78th through 80th as they ran times of 28:18.0, 28:18.7 and 28:20, respectively.
   Freshman Reagan Lilley (Roanoke, Va.) ran a 28:31 to take 84th as the Wasps final scoring competitor while sophomore Gavin Kegler (Woodbridge, Va.) was 90th (28:50) and junior Cody Pecina (Hayters' Gap, Va.) was 104th in 29:56.
   The top two places were claimed by unattached runners, Ryan Fowkes and Diego Zarate who both crossed the finish line in 24:08.40. Radford University's Maxton Sowers won the collegiate event with a time of 24:34.
   Radford also claimed the team championship putting three in the top eight and their five scorers in the top 29. University of Lynchburg placed second despite having six competitors in the top 25.

Emory & Henry will next compete at the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday, October 26. Newberry College will serve as the host for this year's conference meet.
