BRISTOL, Tenn. - The King College Softball Team (2-0) picked up a pair of wins over Emory & Henry College (0-2) in cross-divisional action Friday afternoon, winning by scores of 2-1 and 12-0. The Lady Tornado competes in the Conference Carolinas of NCAA's Division II. The contests were the season openers for both squads.

Game One - King 2, Emory & Henry 1

Emory & Henry got on the board in the top of the first inning. After senior Jenae Morrissey (Utica, N.Y.) drew a walk to lead off the game, a pair of groundouts and a throwing error by the first baseman put her across the plate for the 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Tornado got two runs in the bottom of the third fram to go up 2-1. A solo home run by Cassie Ringstaff got King started with a deep drive over the center field fence. After Kendall Brabson doubled to left, Christy Kooch drove her home with a double to right centerfield.

King was able to retire the next nine E&H batters to preserve the one-run game and take the win. Hannah Light picked up a no-hit victory, with six strikeouts. Emory & Henry sophomore Jennifer True (0-1) took the loss, allowing six hits and two runs over six innings of work.

Game Two - King 12,  Emory & Henry 0

King started off the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back one-out hits, with a ground out by Brabson scoring Christina Melcher from third base.

The Lady Tornado hit a perfect storm in the second frame. King put up eight runs on six hits, highlighted by a two-run double to right centerfield by Tiffany Harris.

In the bottom of the fourth, King added three more runs, giving them the final 12-0 margin after the game was called in the middle of the fifth inning due to the paramaters of the Eight-Run Rule being fulfilled.

Rachael Wilmoth picked up the win on the mound for King, scattering two hits over five innings and striking out two.  Freshman Katie Grimm (Stauton, Va.) fell to 0-1 in her first collegiate appearance for the Wasps.

Emory & Henry will travel to Fayetteville, N.C., next weekend to play in Methodist University's Early Bird Tournament. The Wasps will play York College of Pennsylvania and Greensboro College on Friday and will face off against Stevenson University of Maryland and host school Methodist on Saturday.
