Emory & Henry Softball Splits ODAC Doubleheader With Guilford

EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (8-12, 1-3 ODAC) split a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference games with Guilford College (11-9, 1-5 ODAC) Wednesday afternoon at home. The Quakers won by a 9-1 score in the first game while the Wasps came away with a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.

Game One - Guilford 9, Emory & Henry 1
Guilford broke open a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth with three runs to take a 4-1 lead. The Quakers added another five scores in the top of the seventh to make the final score 9-1.

E&H's lone run came on a solo home run by sophomore centerfielder Cortney Halsey (Independence, Va.) in the bottom of the third.

Freshman Brandy Bryant (Salem, Va.) took the loss for the Wasps while Jessica Burcham pitched the complete-game one-hitter for the Quakers.

Game Two - Emory & Henry 5, Guilford 3
Emory & Henry got out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a two run home run by junior catcher Ashley Ebersole (Maurertown, Va.). The Wasps extended their lead in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run single by senior shortstop Jenae Morrissey (Utica, N.Y.)

Guilford got three runs in the top of the seventh to spoil the shutout. The Quakers got three hits and took advantage of two Wasp errors in the frame to get the runs.

Freshman Katie Grimm (Staunton, Va.) picked up the win in the circle for E&H, while sophomore Jen True (Utica, N.Y.) earned the save. Ashley Boteler suffered the loss for Guilford.

Emory & Henry will travel to Lynchburg on Saturday for an ODAC doubleheader with the Hornets. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
