Randolph-Macon Softball Sweeps Emory & Henry, 6-0 And 9-5, Saturday Afternoon

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Randolph-Macon College Softball Team (18-8, 4-2 ODAC) picked up a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference wins Saturday afternoon over Emory & Henry College (8-18, 1-7 ODAC) at the King College Softball Complex. The Yellow Jackets won by scores of 6-0 and 9-5 in the doubleheader which was moved to Bristol due to unplayable field conditions in Emory.

Game One - Randolph-Macon 6, Emory & Henry 0
The Yellow Jackets used a five-run second inning in defeating the Wasps in game one. Laura Bauer hit a solo home run to start the inning while a triple by Heather Lewis plated two runs in the frame. Randolph-Macon added a sixth run in the third on a RBI single by Amber McCauley.

Lewis got the win in the circle for R-MC, allowing just four hits on the contest and striking out three while Emory & Henry freshman Brandy Bryant (Salem, Va.) fell to 1-3 with the loss.

Game Two - Randolph-Macon 9, Emory & Henry 5
Randolph-Macon used a three-run third and a five-run sixth to defeat Emory & Henry in game two. The Yellow Jackets manufactured their runs early in the game but got a three-run double by Sharese Jarvis in the sixth that highlighted the inning.

Emory & Henry put together some offense in the bottom of the sixth frame scoring four runs to make the score 9-5. The Wasps pounded out seven hits including RBI singles by sophomore third baseman Martha Fluharty (Halifax, N.C.) and senior shortstop Jenae Morrissey (Utica, N.Y.).

Kelly Beard earned the win in 5.2 innings of work for Randolph-Macon while E&H freshman Katie Grimm (Staunton, Va.) suffered the loss.

Four different Yellow Jackets had three hits in the outing, led by Jarvis with four RBI, two doubles and two runs scored as well. Bauer had a double, a home run and two RBI on the afternoon while Lewis plated two runs and a triple.

Sophomore first baseman Jennifer True (Utica, N.Y.) led the Wasps at the plate, going four-for-seven on the day while junior left fielder Courtney Perkinson (Chesapeake, Va.) was two-for-six with a RBI.

Emory & Henry will travel to Bluefield College on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader with the Lady Rams.
