Emory & Henry Softball Splits With Eastern Mennonite Saturday Afternoon

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (11-19, 2-10 ODAC) split a pair of league contests with Eastern Mennonite University Saturday afternoon. The Royals won 6-0 in game one but the Wasps took the nightcap, 3-2. With the win in game two, E&H has now eclipsed last season's win total.

Game One - Eastern Mennonite 6, Emory & Henry 0
The Royals broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third with two runs thanks in part to a RBI single by Courtney Allman. EMU added three runs in the fifth highlighted by a two-run double by Jordan Aylor and an insurance run in the sixth.

Lisa Lee picked up the three-hit shutout for Eastern Mennonite in the circle, striking out five while sophomore Jennifer True (Utica, N.Y.) suffered the loss despite striking out six.

Game Two - Emory & Henry 3, Eastern Mennonite 2
Eastern Mennonite got out to a 2-0 lead in the second on a two-out double to left centerfield by Megan Viafora that cleared the bases.

E&H sophomore centerfielder Cortney Halsey (Independence, Va.) hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning of the to tie the contest at two it was her third round-tripper of the season. The Wasps plated the winning run in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch by the Royals.

Wasp freshman pitcher Brandy Bryant (Salem, Va.) struck out 13 in the complete-game victory, allowing just two unearned runs on four hits. Aylor suffered the loss for the Royals.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road Sunday when it takes on No. 23 Bridgewater College at 2:00 p.m. in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.
