Eastern Mennonite Softball Eliminates Emory & Henry From 2012 ODAC Tournament

SALEM, Va. - The Eastern Mennonite University Softball Team (27-12) picked up 10-0 victory over Emory & Henry College (14-25) in an elimination game at the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament. The Royals will continue their trek through the elimination bracket while the Wasps conclude their season with the team's best record since 2007, when the squad won 23 games.

EMU got on the board in the top of the first inning. After a one-out single to start things off, a double to left field by Courtney Allman gave the Royals a 1-0 lead.

The second inning broke the game open in favor of Eastern Mennonite as they scored seven runs with two outs on four hits and two errors. A double by Lisa Lee mid-way through the frame plated two runs to highlight the frame with put the visitors up by an 8-0 score.

The third and fifth innings both saw runs cross the plate for EMU. Doubles by Molly Smith and Allman drove in runs, respectively as the Royals made the final score 10-0.

Emory & Henry was able to get just four base runners over the entire game, as their Cinderella run in the league tournament came to a close. The Wasps threatened to score in the fourth, but couldn't get on the board.

Lee picked up the win for Eastern Mennonite, pitching five-innings of two-hit, shutout ball with two walks and three strikeouts. Lee helped her cause at the plate, going three-for-three on the day with three runs scored and two RBI while Allman and Brooke Hensley each had two hits.

Emory & Henry's Brandy Bryant (Salem, Va.) took the loss after a remarkable day in the circle on Friday. Junior right fielder Veronica Blankenship (Roanoke, Va.) and sophomore third baseman Martha Fluharty (Halifax, N.C.) had the Wasps' two hits in the game.
