Randolph-Macon Softball Takes Two From Emory & Henry Saturday In ODAC Action

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph Macon College Softball Team (19-2, 4-0 ODAC) picked up a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference wins over Emory & Henry (8-10, 0-2 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at the R-MC Softball Field. The Yellow Jackets won by scores of 10-2 and 4-1 over the Wasps.

Game One – Randolph-Macon 10, Emory & Henry 2 (six innings)
R-MC got seven runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to defeating E&H by a 10-2 score. The Yellow Jackets pounded out five hits in the fame including a three-run triple by Christa Simon to make the score 8-0. Sharese Jarvis hit a pair of home runs, including one in the first and one in the second.

Emory & Henry got two runs in the top of the fourth to make the score 8-2. Freshman first baseman Taylor Doss (Damascus, Va.) hit a two-run shot to centerfield for her fifth homer of the year.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Yellow Jackets plated a pair of runs to satisfy the Eight-Run Advantage rule. After Jarvis hit a one-out single to third base, Madison Gilman homered to make the score 10-2 and end the game.

Randolph-Macon's Jarvis was three-for-four with three runs scored and two RBI. Simon drove in three runs and had two hits while Lacey Berry and Katie Woody each had a pair of base knocks. Heather Lewis picked up the win in the circle, scattering five hits over six innings of work.

Doss led the Wasps as she went two-for-three with two RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Katie Grimm (Staunton, Va.) fell to 4-1 on the year allowing seven runs on five hits. Freshman Taylor Banner (Castlewood, Va.) pitched four solid innings in relief for E&H.

Game Two – Randolph-Macon 4, Emory & Henry 1
The Yellow Jackets claimed the series sweep with a 4-1 win in the second game of the doubleheader. Amanda Sopko hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first to get things started.

In the bottom of the third, a trio of solo home runs by Jarvis, Gilman and Woody gave R-MC a 4-0 lead.

After three scoreless innings, E&H got on the board in the top of the seventh. After freshman Kaitlyn Pruitt (Abingdon, Va.) singled to get things going, Doss hit a RBI single to centerfield two batters later to avoid the shutout, 4-1.

Sopko and Michalann Camp each had two hits in the game for the Yellow Jackets. Kristen Dize earned the win, scattering three hits over seven innings of work with five strikeouts.

Emory & Henry's Pruitt took the loss, as she allowed four runs on seven hits in 2.1 innings of work. Sophomore Brandy Bryant (Salem, Va.) pitched 3.2 innings in relief and allowed just two hits while striking out three.

The Wasps will continue their road trip on Sunday when they face the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College at 10:00 a.m., in an ODAC doubleheader.
