Emory & Henry Softball Places Two On All-ODAC Teams

FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team has seen two of its players named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Teams, ODAC officials announced Tuesday. It is the first time since the 2007 season that an E&H player has earned all-league honors.

Freshman third baseman Hannah Bays (Abingdon, Va.) was named first-team all-conference while senior catcher Ashley Ebersole (Maurertown, Va.) was selected to the All-ODAC Second Team.

Bays led the Wasps in 2013 in home runs (12) and RBI (49) while finishing second on the team in batting (.336), hits (38), doubles (eight) and at bats (113). Her dozen round-trippers set a new Emory & Henry record for home runs in a season. Bays played the majority of the season at third base, but switched to shortstop for the final few games of the year.

Ebersole earns her second award from the league this season after being named ODAC Player of the Week on March 11. She led the Wasps in batting (.363), runs scored (41), hits (41) and walks drawn (17). Ebersole's 11 home runs, 31 RBI and eight doubles were good for second on the team.

Midway through the season, Ebersole became the first-ever Emory & Henry player to hit 10 home runs during a season. Her 11th home run in the final doubleheader of the year gave her 22 career homers, tying the school record.

Emory & Henry finished the season with a 12-26 record and a 4-16 mark in ODAC play. Despite a young team where many freshmen and sophomores were called upon to play substantial innings, the Wasps showed great improvement as a team in many areas, including batting, on base percentage, and fielding.
