Emory & Henry Softball’s Ashley Ebersole Named Academic All-District

AUSTIN, Texas – Emory & Henry College has seen one of its softball players named to the 2013 NCAA Division III Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District V Team, CoSIDA officials announced Friday. CoSIDA is the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Senior catcher Ashley Ebersole (Maurertown, Va.) has been selected to the Academic All-District First Team, and is now eligible for Academic All-America® honors. Ebersole is one of three players from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to earn Academic All-District accolades.

She is the first Emory & Henry player since 2004 to be selected when outfielder Ashley Neese and pitcher Sarah Caldwell were each named to the All-District III squad.

Ebersole, a graduate of Central High School, led the team in batting average (.363), hits (41), runs (41) and walks (17). She was second on the squad in at bats (113), home runs (11) doubles (eight), slugging (.726) and on-base percentage (.443).

Ebersole, who was named to the All-ODAC Second Team, completed her career with 22 home runs to tie the E&H record. She broke the school record for home runs in a season with her 10th round-tripper of the year, but saw her record fall later in the campaign to teammate Hannah Bays.

At one point during the season, Ebersole led the nation in home runs and slugging and was ranked in the top 10 in four different categories.

Emory & Henry finished the year with a 12-26 record and a 4-16 mark in ODAC play while Ebersole was selected as ODAC Player of the Week on March 11, the first time since 2008 that a Wasp has earned the honor.

CoSIDA's Academic All-America® program has recognized student-athletes for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom for over 50 years. CoSIDA members nominate and vote in selection of Academic All-District and All-America performers in 12 sport categories across all divisions of college athletics.
