LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Emory & Henry College has seen a member of its softball team earn 2013 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Atlantic Region honors. NFCA is the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Freshman third baseman Hannah Bays (Abingdon, Va.) becomes the first Wasp since 2004 to be recognized as an all-region player. Bays was named to the All-Atlantic Region Third Team after earning All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference accolades in April.

Bays had a stellar season in 2013 as she led the Wasps in home runs (12) and RBI (49) while finishing second on the team in batting (.336), hits (38), doubles (eight) and at bats (113). Her dozen round-trippers set a new Emory & Henry single-season record.

Bays played the majority of the season at third base, but switched to shortstop for the final games of the year. E&H finished the 2013 season with a 12-26 overall record and a 4-16 mark in ODAC play.

Earning first- and second-team all-conference honors, respectively, Bays and senior catcher Ashley Ebersole (Maurertown, Va.) were the first Emory & Henry softball players to be named All-ODAC since 2007. Bays is the first all-league first-teamer since Brooke Barker in 2005.

The last Emory & Henry player to be named all-region by the NFCA was Sarah Cordill, who was a four-time All-ODAC and All-Atlantic Region honoree (2001-04). Cordill, the most decorated player in E&H Softball history, was also the ODAC Player of the Year in 2002.
