Lynchburg Softball Sweeps Emory & Henry Wednesday Afternoon An ODAC Action

LYNCHBURG, Va.  – The Lynchburg College softball team (25-11, 13-5 ODAC) picked up a double header sweep of Emory & Henry College (21-11, 7-9 ODAC) Wednesday afternoon in Old Dominian Athletic Conference play. The Hornets took game one by a 6-1 score, and won the nightcap 3-0.

Game One – Lynchburg 6, Emory & Henry 1
The Hornets got their first run in the bottom of the first on a solo home run by Melanie Tenney. Lynchburg made it 2-0 in the third on a double by Kayla St. John, plating Danielle Powell.

Powell singled down the left field line in the fifth while St. John knocked a two-run home run later in the frame for a 5-0 advantage. Lynchburg got its sixth run on a leadoff home run Amber Ingram.

Emory & Henry spoiled the shutout in the top of the seventh when sophomore first baseman Taylor Doss (Damascus, Va.) homered down the left field line for the final 6-1 score.

Hope Johnson picked up the win for Lynchburg, pitching five innings of one-hit, two-strikeout ball. Ingram was three-for-three while St. John had two hits and three RBI.

E&H sophomore Taylor Banner (Castlewood, Va.) suffered the loss, falling to 8-6 on the year. Doss had the big hit of the game, as the Wasps managed just five hits.

Game Two – Lynchburg 3, Emory & Henry 0
After four and a half scoreless innings, Lynchburg got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fifth on an error off a sacrifice bunt.

The Hornets made the final 3-0 margin in the sixth on a solo home run by Tenney and a passed ball, scoring Powell, who reached base on a single to right centerfield. Tenney finished the game two-for-three.

Ingram picked up the complete-game three-hit win, striking out seven while E&H junior Brandy Bryant (Salem, Va.) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on six hits.

Emory & Henry will return home on Friday afternoon for an ODAC double header with Sweet Briar College. First pitch between the Wasps and Vixens is set for 2:00 p.m.
