Randolph Softball Takes Two From Emory & Henry Monday Afternoon

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Randolph College Softball Team (25-12, 12-6 ODAC) claimed a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference victories over Emory & Henry College (23-13, 9-11 ODAC) Monday afternoon. The WildCats won game one, 3-0, and claimed the nightcap, 7-5.

Game One – Randolph 3, Emory & Henry 0
The WildCats got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. After Rachel Hickman reached base on a one-out error, Jessica Nowak drove her home two batters later with a double to right field.

In the sixth, Randolph added a pair of runs for a 3-0 advantage. Hunter Glave and Hannah Cook had RBI base hits in the frame.

Glave and Brittney Via each had two hits in the game as Logan Carter picked up the complete-game win, striking out eight while allowing seven hits.

Sophomore right fielder Hannah Bays (Abingdon, Va.)was two-for-three in the game despite the loss. Junior Brandy Bryant (Salem, Va.) allowed three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

Game Two – Randolph 7, Emory & Henry 5
The Wildcats started off with two runs in the bottom of the first. Erin Wehrhan scored on a wild pitch while Cook had a sacrifice fly for Randolph's scores in the inning.

Randolph added a run in the third on single up the middle by Jackie Lamberty and made the score 6-0 after five on four hits and an error by the Wasps. Glave doubled to centerfield to highlight the inning.

After Nowak doubled in the bottom of the fifth to five the WildCats a 7-0 advantage, Emory & Henry struck back in the sixth.

With the bases loaded in the sixth, freshman shortstop Riley Pudney (Beech Mountain, N.C.) had a bases-clearing double to left centerfield while freshman catcher Jordan Chrisley (Dublin, Va.) doubled to left to drive in another run for the final 7-5 margin.

Cook was three-for-three with two RBI while Hannah Winfree also had three hits and Nowak drove in two runs. Winfree earned the win, allowing five runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts while Carter took the save.

Emory & Henry was led at the plate by Chrisley's three-for-four performance, adding a RBI. Pudney was two-for-three with three RBI while sophomore first baseman Taylor Doss (Damascus, Va.) also notched a pair of hits. Sophomore Taylor Banner (Castlewood, Va.) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks.

E&H will now await the announcement of the 2014 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament pairings, which will come on Tuesday evening with the completion of the regular season games.
