Emory & Henry Softball Splits With Roanoke Tuesday In ODAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (26-8, 7-5 ODAC) split its Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader with Roanoke College (22-14, 9-5 ODAC) Tuesday evening. The Wasps took game one by a 4-0 score while the Maroons picked up a come-from-behind win, 4-3, to salvage the split.

Game One – Emory & Henry 4, Roanoke 0
- Emory & Henry jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a double by senior shortstop Leah Elswick (Honaker, Va.).
- The Wasps made it 3-0 in the second on a triple by junior centerfielder Erin Anderson (Aylett, Va.) and got an insurance run in the third when junior right fielder Madison McClanahan (Abingdon, Va.) reached on an error.
- E&H sophomore Tiffany Cole (Wise, Va.) picked up her fourth shutout of the year, scattering four hits and three strikeouts over the game.
- Roanoke's Emily Salsberry took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in just 1.2 innings of work.

Game Two – Emory & Henry 8, Eastern Mennonite 3
- The Wasps broke a 0-0 game open in the top of the third when Anderson scored on a wild pitch.
- RC tied the game, 1-1 in the fourth when Brianna Nardone reached on an error.
- In the top of the fifth, Emory & Henry regained the lead on back-to-back RBI base hits by sophomore left fielder Caitlyn Yates (Coeburn, Va.) and senior first baseman Caley Hodge (Elizabethton, Tenn.).
-The Maroons scored three times in the bottom of the inning for a 4-3 advantage. Ruthie Williams tied things up with a two-run single up the middle and a single to shortstop by Kendall Penn gave Roanoke the lead.
- Emory & Henry got runners on in both the sixth and seventh but was unable to produce more offense.
- Teresa Wagner went the distance to give RC the win, scattering one earned run on seven hits with five strikeouts.
- Wasp freshman Alex Braun (Cornelius, N.C.) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on four hits with five strikeouts of her own.

- Emory & Henry will face Bridgewater College in ODAC action on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m.
- The doubleheader will be played at Abingdon High School in Abingdon, Virginia.
