Emory & Henry Softball Blanks Centre, 8-0, At Piedmont Classic Saturday Morning

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (3-2, 0-0 ODAC) picked up an 8-0 run-rule victory over Centre College (0-1, 0-0 SAA) in day two of the Piedmont Classic.

The Wasps' second game of the day against No. 13 Berry College was washed out due to unplayable conditions at Habersham Central High School.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third inning as sophomore designated player Mia Altizer (Abingdon, Va.) doubled to left field.
- The Wasps made it 4-0 with a pair of base hits in the bottom of the fourth from senior outfielder Rachel Smoot (Riner, Va.) and freshman second baseman Hailey Mince (Trinity, N.C.).
- In the bottom of the sixth, the Wasps added four runs to go ahead by an 8-0 score and end the game. Sophomore first baseman Kendall Varner (Bassett, Va.) led the frame off with a solo home run while senior Madison McClanahan (Abingdon, Va.) hit a walk-off double to end the game.
- Sophomore Alex Braun (Cornelius, N.C.) earned the one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.
- Centre's Torey Hawkins suffered the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits in five-plus inning of work.
