BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (22-12, 12-4 ODAC) kept it hold on second place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Saturday after splitting a doubleheader with Bridgewater College (22-14, 9-9 ODAC). The Wasps grabbed a 10-3 win in game one while the Eagles rallied to claim a 2-1 victory in game two.

Game One – Emory & Henry 10, Bridgewater 3
Emory & Henry jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, highlighted by a two-run home run by freshman left fielder Anna Thomas (Climax, N.C.). The Wasps pushed their margin to 4-0 in the second on a double by senior centerfielder Erin Anderson (Aylett, Va.) and made it a 6-0 game midway through the fourth as junior shortstop Leanna Toler (Abingdon, Va.) hit a sacrifice fly followed by another base hit by Anderson.
Kaitlyn Tirona put the eagles on the board in the fifth with a solo home run and BC got within three, 6-3, on a pair of base hits by Victoria Gontarz and Lindsey Talley in the fifth. E&H responded with four runs in the top of the seventh, capping the scoring with a three-run shot by sophomore first baseman Kendall Varner (Bassett, Va.).
Sophomore right-hander Cameron Derr (Cornelius, N.C.) earned the complete-game victory, scattering three runs on six hits with nine strikeouts. BC's Carolyn Campbell took the loss, being chased after just one-third of an inning.
Game Two – Bridgewater 2, Emory & Henry 1
Varner led the game off with a home run to give the Wasps a 1-0 lead but the Eagles answered in the bottom of the frame when Brooke Louden singled to centerfield to plate a pair of runs for the 2-1 advantage. That would be all of the scoring for the afternoon despite E&H getting runners in scoring position in three of the final six innings.
Louden also grabbed the win, allowing just one run on six hits with two strikeouts. Wasp sophomore Alex Braun (Cornelius, N.C.) suffered the loss, allowing just two runs on six hits, while striking out nine.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road on Sunday when it visits Shenandoah University at noon.
