WINCHESTER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Softball Team (23-13, 13-5 ODAC) earned a doubleheader split for the second day in a row on Sunday. The Wasps defeated the Hornets of Shenandoah University (18-19, 7-11 ODAC) 8-2 in game one and SU came back to take the nightcap, 4-2.

Game One – Emory & Henry 8, Shenandoah 2
Shenandoah got out to a 2-0 lead after the second inning. Carrie Robinson highlighted the second with a RBI triple to left-centerfield. E&H broke the game open with six runs in the fourth. Junior second baseman Lyndsay Boyd (Abingdon, Va.) got the scoring started with a single up the middle while freshman left fielder Anna Thomas (Climax, N.C.) had a two-run single through the left side later in the frame.
The Wasps added two more runs in the sixth to make it an 8-2 final. Sophomore first baseman Kendall Varner (Bassett, Va.) knocked a triple to left center and was driven home on the next at bat by Thomas.
Emory & Henry sophomore Cameron Derr (Cornelius, N.C.) struck out 10 in the complete-game victory, allowing two runs on five hits. Shenandoah's Morgan Scalley took the loss, allowing seven runs on five hits and six walks.
Game Two – Bridgewater 2, Emory & Henry 1
The Wasps took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Thomas hit a sacrifice fly to foul territory, driving in Varner. SU tied the contest on a double down the left field line by Jenna Barr in the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Shenandoah put up a trio of unearned runs to take a 4-1 lead. E&H rallied in the top of the seventh as Thomas tagged a double to right-centerfield, scoring junior Caitlyn Yates (Coeburn, Va.) from first base, but would get no closer than the final 4-2 margin.
Carrie Robinson earned the win in relief for the Hornets, pitching the fifth inning and allowing no runs. Scalley came back to earn the save, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts in the final two frames. Wasp junior Tiffany Cole (Wise, Va.) suffered the loss, permitting just one earned run on three hits.

Emory & Henry will return home on Sunday to host the University of Lynchburg at 2:00 p.m. The games will also serve as Senior Day for the Wasps.
